Africa Primary Health Care Forum: Rethinking Primary Healthcare in Africa
As part of our commitment to advancing quality primary healthcare in Nigeria, we joined the Africa Primary Healthcare Forum hosted by the West African Institute of Public Health (WAIPH), where we led a high-level discussion on how collaboration across sectors can address key challenges and close gaps in primary healthcare delivery across the continent.
The Africa Primary Healthcare Forum, hosted by the West African Institute of Public Health (WAIPH), brought together health leaders and key stakeholders to reimagine primary healthcare delivery in Africa. Conversations focused on tackling persistent service delivery challenges and exploring practical, homegrown solutions to strengthen the continent’s healthcare systems.
As part of the forum, we hosted a plenary session titled “Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs): Leveraging Resources for Sustainable Health Systems”, moderated by our Executive Vice Chair, Mrs. Ofovwe Aig-Imoukhuede. The session examined how stronger collaboration between the public and private sectors can help unlock resources, bridge critical service gaps, and deliver long-term, sustainable health outcomes.
The keynote address was delivered by the Chairman, National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Dr. Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe. He called for joint investments, community-driven solutions, and innovative financing to drive lasting impact in primary healthcare. On the panel were leading voices in the health sector, including Mrs. Fola Laoye (Co-founder and CEO, Iwosan Investment Limited), Dr. Dere Awosika (CEO, Josephine Consulting), Mr. Tope Adeniyi (CEO, AXA Mansard Health, represented by Dr. Jadesola Idowu, COO, AXA Mansard), Dr. Salma Anas (Special Adviser to the President on Health, represented by Dr. Ahmed Baba), and Mrs. Njide Ndili (Country Director, PharmAccess Foundation and President, Healthcare Federation of Nigeria).
Our contribution to the forum reflects our wider commitment to expanding access to affordable, high-quality primary healthcare. By sharing learnings and successful models from our work, we aim to spark greater collaboration and encourage smarter, more impactful investments in health across the region.
