Driving Sustainable Development Through Diaspora Philanthropy

How can diaspora philanthropy support sustainable development in Nigeria? FP Analytics, the research arm of Foreign Policy, went looking for answers and featured our work as one of six global case studies in their findings.

A new report by FP Analytics, the research arm of Foreign Policy, explores the role of Nigerian diaspora philanthropy in advancing sustainable development. Published with support from the Ford Foundation, the report examines how Nigerians in the diaspora contribute to national development through philanthropy, investment, and other forms of giving.

As part of the research, FP Analytics interviewed our Executive Vice Chair, Mrs Ofovwe Aig-Imoukhuede. She spoke about our work and shared insights on our approach to strengthening public institutions.

“What we are trying to do is strengthen the ability of the public sector to thrive, and it will only do so when there are good public servants in each of the ministries, departments, and agencies, when they have the training, the resources, and the organisational structure,” she said.

The Foundation was featured as one of six case studies in the report, alongside examples from India, Mexico, and the Philippines, as a model for how diaspora philanthropy can support sustainable development.
