AIG Public Leaders Programme Residential Week: Building a New Generation of African Public Sector Leaders

After two months of virtual learning, the fifth cohort of the AIG Public Leaders Programme (PLP) completed their in-person Residential Week. 69 participants of the programme came together for an immersive week of learning with the University of Oxford’s Blavatnik School of Government.

Cohort 5’s Residential Week brought together 69 public sector leaders from across Africa, for an intensive and collaborative learning experience with faculty from the University of Oxford’s Blavatnik School of Government. Through lectures, peer exchanges, simulations, and case studies, participants explored integrity, leadership, digital governance, accountability, and strategies for driving reform in complex systems.

With this foundation in place, programme participants will now focus on developing reform projects that tackle urgent challenges within their organisation This phase of the programme ensures that every insight gained becomes a practical solution capable of strengthening institutions and improving service delivery.

The cohort also benefitted from sessions with distinguished guest speakers, including Dr Dere Awosika, former Federal Permanent Secretary; Mr Frank Nweke Jr., former Director-General of the NESG and former Federal Minister; our Chairman, Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede; and members of our Leadership Council. Their guidance encouraged participants to prioritise sustainability and design reforms that can deliver long-term, meaningful impact.

We are confident that the momentum built during the Residential Week will inspire transformative change across public institutions on the continent.
