The Role of Community Health Workers in Primary Healthcare: A Technical Article

From delivering essential services to improving maternal and child health, Community Health Workers make a difference every day. Learn how our initiatives are equipping them to do even more.

Community Health Workers (CHWs) are dedicated frontline providers who bridge the gap between community members and the primary healthcare system. They deliver lifesaving services, build trust, and promote healthy practices that improve maternal and child health outcomes.

Despite their vital role, many CHWs work under difficult conditions, with limited training, inadequate pay, and insufficient resources. Recognising this, our work in primary healthcare is helping to transform the environment in which they operate. Through the Adopt-A-Healthcare-Facility Programme (ADHFP), investments in infrastructure, equipment, and training are giving CHWs the tools and support they need to serve better.

By empowering CHWs, we move closer to a future where every Nigerian no matter where they live has access to quality, reliable healthcare.
