FP Analytics Report Examines Role of Diaspora Philanthropy in Nigeria

What is the role of philanthropy in supporting Nigeria’s sustainable development goals (SDGs)?

FP Analytics, the independent research arm of Foreign Policy, explores this in its new research report, Driving Sustainable Development in Nigeria Through Diaspora Philanthropy, published with the support of the Ford Foundation. The report analyses how high-earning Nigerians in diaspora engage in philanthropy, investment, and other forms of giving to their country of origin and how that investment has the potential to make an even greater impact.

In the course of its research, FP Analytics spoke with officials from philanthropic organisations, policy experts, and development professionals working to support Nigeria’s development goals, with our work at the Foundation highlighted as a case study of how philanthropy can support these goals through public sector reform.

Since our establishment in 2020, we have the belief that for Nigeria to achieve sustainable economic growth and prosperity, it is imperative that the civil service is functional and trustworthy enough to deliver for the citizens.

In an interview with FP Analytics, our Executive Vice Chair Ofovwe Aig-Imoukhuede noted that, “What we are trying to do is strengthen the ability of the public sector to thrive, and it will only do so when there are good public servants in each of the ministries, departments, and agencies, when they have the training, the resources, and the organisational structure.”
