2025 Edelman Trust Barometer: Trust, Collaboration, and the Future

Trust is the foundation of effective public service delivery. At the 2025 Nigeria launch of the Edelman Trust Barometer, our Executive Vice Chair joined thought leaders to explore ways to rebuild public trust in institutions. We are thrilled to add our voice to this important global conversation.

Over the years, the Edelman Trust Barometer has captured key shifts in public trust in institutions, emphasising the fundamental role that trust plays in societal advancement. This month, we were proud to add our voice to this important global conversation.

Our Executive Vice Chair represented the Foundation at the 2025 Nigeria Launch of the annual global survey, which measures public trust in four key societal institutions: business, government, media, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). According to this year’s survey, businesses and NGOs rank as the most trusted institutions.

During an insightful panel discussion, she discussed the critical role that collaboration across sectors plays in driving meaningful societal change, emphasising that lasting change occurs when all stakeholders are fully engaged.  Drawing from her leadership at the Foundation, she highlighted the critical roles that NGOs and civil society organisations play in rebuilding trust and advancing reforms that directly impact citizens’ lives.

She joined an esteemed panel of thought leaders, including Kwame Senou, Executive Director at The Holding Opinion and Public (THOP) and Edelman's Regional Advisor for West and Central Africa; Amaechi Michael Okobi, Chief Brand and Communications Officer at Access Bank; and Dr Ikechukwu Obiaya, Dean of the School of Media and Communication at Pan-Atlantic University. Together, the panel explored how institutions can meet the expectations of an increasingly informed and engaged public.

We understand that trust is essential to effective governance, and we remain committed to advancing increased transparency and accountability across public sector in Africa, which will lead to better outcomes for citizens.
